Rick Kuester was named senior executive vice president of WEC Energy Group in March 2018 and appointed to the Office of the Chair effective, Feb. 1, 2019. In this role, he oversees a number of functional areas with a special emphasis on the company’s major capital investment plan.
Kuester previously served as executive vice president of Wisconsin Energy Corp. and its utility subsidiary, We Energies. He retired in early 2013 after completing the Power the Future program and worked for the company as a consultant in the following years.
Kuester joined the organization in 2003 as president and chief executive officer – We Generation. In 2004, he was appointed executive vice president of Wisconsin Energy Corp. In 2011, he was appointed chief financial officer for Wisconsin Energy Corp. and its utility subsidiary, We Energies.
Prior to joining the company, Kuester was senior vice president – international of Mirant Corporation and chief executive officer of Mirant Asia-Pacific Limited in Hong Kong. While in Asia, he was responsible for constructing 1,200 megawatts of coal-based generation in the Philippines. Earlier, Kuester served as vice president – power generation and delivery for Mississippi Power Company. Prior to his assignment in Mississippi, he was engineering manager – nuclear plant support for Southern Company Services in Birmingham, Alabama. He also served as vice president – investor relations in Southern Company’s New York City office.
Kuester holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama.
Kuester is a former member of the Milwaukee School of Engineering board of regents.
